South Street Player – (Who?) Keeps Changing Your Mind (Chocolate Puma Fresh Fruit Vocal Edit)

Back in 1993 Strictly Rhythm released a record called ‘South Street Player – (Who?) Keeps Changing Your Mind‘. It was a song produced and performed by Roland Clarke, who you also might know from ‘Armand van Helden’s Flowers‘.

Soon it became quite a big club hit here in The Netherlands. We both loved the record so we decided to license it for our Fresh Fruit Label. For our release we made 2 remixes: Fresh Fruit Deep and Fresh Fruit Dub. Both didn’t have much vocals in it, not because we didn’t like them, but because back then we just didn’t have the equipment to include the full vocals. In those early days our ’studio’ was very basic!

Now, 17 years later, we made a vocal edit of our Fresh Fruit Dub, so you can finally hear it how it was ment to be.
Strictly Rhythm is re-releasing it on the 1st of februari 2010, alongside a remix and dub by Daniel Bovie & Roy Rox.

UPDATE: It’s out now on Beatport!

David Guetta feat. Estelle – One Love (Chocolate Puma Remix)

French superstar David Guetta was already hammering some of our tracks like Dub Of Boom, Soul Makossa and our remix of Flo Rida & Nelly Furtado, which is obviously a very cool thing. It got even better when he asked us to remix his new single One Love, featuring American Boy singer Estelle.
So we turned this popsong into something that would fit on the bigger dancefloors.

Releasedate: soon.

Here’s a short preview:

Jump @ iTunes

The track that has everybody jumpin’ in front of our DJ-booth is now available @ most iTunes Stores, so now you can grab your own copy of the ‘Chocolate Puma Full Vocal Mix’ and the ‘Chocolate Puma Dub Mix’ of Flo Rida & Nelly Furtado’s ‘Jump’.
For some reason the ‘Chocolate Puma Remix‘ is not included in the package, but who knows it will be released in the future. So go to the iTunes store, type ‘Chocolate Puma Flo Rida’ in the search field, and it should pop up.

This is what DJ Mag had to say about it:
Flo Rida feat Nelly Furtado – Jump (Chocolate Puma Remixes) – Warner Music

Making dance tracks is all the rage for hip-hop and r&b types but if they want proper club grooves they still have to come to those who know. Dutch beat terrorists Chocolate Puma show they have the knowledge here as they twist Nelly and Flo around their usual brand of hard hitting beats and stabbed keys.

Flo Rida feat. Nelly Furtado – Jump (Chocolate Puma Remix)

The track that has been doing extremely well in our sets, is our remix of Jump by Flo Rida feat. Nelly Furtado. We tried to turn this poppy hip hop record into a rougher old school Chocolate Puma thing, and we think we it turned out pretty good. So dope beats, hard hitting 8 bit stabs, Nelly’s voice and Flo Rida shouting ‘jump’ is definately a very good kickstart for everybody to start jumping.

Expect it @ Beatport soon.

And a short lo-fi preview:

Sole Fusion – Bass Tone (Chocolate Puma Remix)

“One of the wonders of the sheer vastness of house music is the discovery of hidden nuggets in even the most obvious of places. You wouldn’t imagine that a record produced by Louie Vega and released on Strictly Rhythm could be undiscovered in any way, but Bass Tone has been a secret well kept by an unlikely duopoly of US house heads and UK garage ragamuffins ever since it came out in the mid 90s. Here Vega’s early venture into starker, more experimental sounds by way of breaking glass and sirens is taken further along the road of wonderful weirdness by H.O.S.H. and given a controlled dose of musical steroids by Chocolate Puma. ”

Having no parts or multitrack of the original recording, and doing al kinds of geeky trickery and filtering to isolate the sounds was the easy part. Remixing a real classic and one of our favourite Louie Vega records was the hard part! So we did our best trying to capture the spirit, trademark sounds and beats of the original record while updating it for today’s dancefloors. For the deeper crowds we also provided a dubbier version. Hope you like!

Busy!

Last month was a very busy month for us! Lots of gigs and lots of studio work!

Bloemendaal was intense, Dance Valley was massive, Matrixx in the park was crazy, Cannes was posh and mad as hell!

We just finished work on our upcoming ‘Defected In The House Amsterdam’ compilation, for which we made lots of special edits and exclusive new tracks, and did collaborations with Baggi Bagovic and Hardsoul. It will be hitting the shops in a few weeks.

Back in 1993 we did a Fresh Fruit Remix of ‘South Street Player – Who Keeps Changing Your Mind’. At that time we had such crappy equipment, that we couldn’t do a full vocal mix, but only a dub. We fixed that now and delivered a full vocal edit of this classic Remix. We also remixed the classic Masters At Work Track ‘Bass Tone’ by Sole Fusion. Both should be out soon on Strictly.

We also remixed a song by two really big international artists, and we think it turned out pretty neat! Expect that within the next few weeks.

We’ll be diving back into the studio now and will be preparing for our upcoming gigs.

14-08-2009 – Panama invites Anna Agency – Amsterdam

15-08-2009 – Zomerkriebels Festival – Leidsche Rijn

Shovell & The Latin Hooligans – Soul Makossa (Chocolate Puma Remix)

Drum Warrior Shovell, who also did the drums on our song Whohaddrums, asked us to remix his cover of the classic 70’s afro-disco track Soul Makossa. So we looped the hypnotising voice, put the saxophone through a filter and banged some beats on top of it. Result is this tribal-sax-turned-into-acid-houser. Hope you like!

Releasedate is 8th of june 2009 on Defected.
