View Video

For our upcoming compilation Pssst Music Assorti 1 we went up to our studio’s attic in search for some old master tapes. Doing so, we stumbled upon some old studio equipment we have been using over the years.

Track playing: Chocolate Puma – The Wall Between Us

About the compilation:

Back in 1995 we stopped releasing on our label Fresh Fruit Records and started a new one, Pssst Music. The main goal for this label always was, and still is, just releasing stuff we like. Wether it would be underground techno, or happy bumping house music, as long as we were feeling it, we would release it. For this reason it was possible to buy a Pssst Record that would end up in Top Of The Pops (I Wanna Be U), or a record that only beard rubbing hipsters in smelly basements would approve of (like Collin Bros. – Pontti, our worst selling record ever).

Recently, and for the first time ever in the history of Pssst, we decided it was time for a series of compilation. We kick of with Pssst Assorti 1. It features some unknown B-sides, well known remastered classics and some stuff we recently did together with Gregor Salto and Firebeatz. Exlusive for this compilation is a new Chocolate Puma track called The Wall Between Us, which fits nicely along the trippier tracks like The Good Men – Kintoki, Pontti and Jark Prongo’s Wet Pants, Smelly Elbows. For the house heads we’ve included Fresh Tunes #3 – The Man, which has that classic ’90′s house feel and Jark Prongo – Sweet Little Thing

Release date: 14-05-2012

An underground gem, made with just a Roland W30, R8 and JD990 (all bought at a music store called Helios ;-) ), and recorded in what was then our little bedroom studio.
Now Innervisions Records re-released it for their Secret Weapons series.
It still sounds kinda fresh, so check it out at your favorite download portal (album only) or your local vinyl shop.

Our friends at Mojuba released an EP with two of our older Jark Prongo tracks.

Joe at Random Circuits wrote a nice article about it. Thanks Joe!

Jark Prongo are Gaston Steenkist & René ter Horst a Dutch duo specialising in House & Techno who have been releasing music via there own label [Pssst Music] since the mid nineties. The pair have a extensive back catalogue ranging from from house & techno to everything else in between including a large number of aliases one of which is Chocolate Puma who you may remember them for releasing “I Wanna Be U” the year 2000 which was a commercial sing a long smash hit and gained lots of radio play. If the thought of another “I Wanna” physically repulses you, well don’t stress, as the ”Spadet” EP which has been reissued for the excellent [Artless] label is a million and then some miles away from the pop house vibes of Chocolate Puma.

The newly reissued (& Remastered by Redshape) ”Spadet” EP consists of two Detriot influenced techno tracks both of which were originally released on two separate EP’s back in the mid to late 90’s via Jark Prongo’s own label Pssst Music. Lead track “Spadet” was released in 1995 on the duo’s (Interdox) EP then two years later “M- Tech” was released on the (DSM) EP.

Spadet is a tight rolling techno track with huge references to the classic Detroit techno sound. Building with short, sharp rolling riffs, luscious melodies and some quite amazing production work by the Dutch duo.The second half of the track is where things take a turn for the dance floor – (peak time). This is when the track really rolls out the red carpet by introducing some awesome synth work on top of some rolling (almost oriental melodies). It’s all extremely well produced and a fantastic reissue by an always consistent label.

M-Tech takes the listener on a twelve minute spaced out journey through deep cosmic riffs, tight organic percussion and some excellent Detroit inspired synths. Like Spadet, “M-Tech” is a builder and let me tell you now, when its built and in full flow you could think your in “Motor City” back in the day listening to the likes of Saunderson and Juan spinning relentlessly back to back. It has so much to give that not playing the record to the very last possible beats before mixing it in would be a waste. Drop this peak time and watch the floor fill. Essential EP.
